Arctic Alert is spearheaded by Bernice
Notenboom who recently (all in 2007) skied to three poles, the North,
South and Cold Pole in Siberia to first-hand record the changes in polar
climates. She is the first Dutch person to have skied to all poles in
one year and the first Dutch women to have skied to the South Pole. Upon
return, Bernice visited schools in the Netherlands to share her expedition
experiences and to link it to climate change. She alerted children through
a show and tell in the classroom about changes that are taking place
at the poles, on the sea ice and ice-cap and what they can do at home
to reduce their own carbon footprint. |

Before the Arctic Alert Greenland
expedition starts, Bernice will appear on Dutch Television to encourage
Dutch children to take action to start a project they can do to reduce
their carbon footprint. During the expedition, Bernice will be live on
television (4 times) reporting about their findings from the ice-cap
and Inuit villages they will visit along the way. On June 6th Bernice
will be back live on tv to further explain their experiences and findings
of climate change and discuss the initiatives the children have started.
In September, Bernice will once again visit schools and award the best
project. In the fall, Teleac School tv will broadcast their expedition. |
